Kiln firing at Boulder Pottery Studio. Gas and electric kilns for reduction and oxidation firing in Boulder.
Kiln firing is the transformative final step in pottery — where fragile, dry clay becomes permanent, durable ceramic. At Boulder Pottery Studio, we offer both gas kiln and electric kiln firing, giving you access to a full range of ceramic possibilities.
Electric kilns provide consistent oxidation atmospheres, perfect for bright, predictable glaze colors. Gas kilns allow for reduction firing, where the atmosphere inside the kiln is starved of oxygen, creating rich, varied surfaces that are impossible to achieve in an electric kiln. Having both types of kilns in one studio is rare in Boulder County.
At Boulder Pottery Studio, we teach kiln firing as part of our comprehensive pottery curriculum. Whether you're exploring this technique for the first time or deepening an existing practice, our instructors will guide you through the fundamentals and help you develop your skills.
All materials are included in our class fees — clay, glazes, kiln firing, and tools. Our studio is equipped with both gas and electric kilns, giving you access to firing options that most pottery studios in Boulder can't offer.
