Slip casting ceramics in Boulder. Pour liquid clay into molds for consistent, detailed pottery forms.
Slip casting is a production pottery technique where liquid clay (slip) is poured into plaster molds. The plaster absorbs water from the slip, leaving a thin shell of clay against the mold walls. After drying, the cast piece is removed, cleaned, and fired.
At Boulder Pottery Studio, we teach slip casting as a specialized workshop. It's the technique behind many of the ceramic objects you see every day, and it opens up forms and details that are difficult to achieve on the wheel or by hand.
At Boulder Pottery Studio, we teach slip casting as part of our comprehensive pottery curriculum. Whether you're exploring this technique for the first time or deepening an existing practice, our instructors will guide you through the fundamentals and help you develop your skills.
All materials are included in our class fees — clay, glazes, kiln firing, and tools. Our studio is equipped with both gas and electric kilns, giving you access to firing options that most pottery studios in Boulder can't offer.
