Raku firing is one of the most exciting and dramatic forms of pottery firing. Pots are removed from the kiln while still glowing hot and placed into combustible materials, creating unpredictable metallic lusters, crackled surfaces, and smoky carbon patterns.

Raku is a fuel-fired, outdoor process, and our studio fires modern electric kilns — so we cover raku in our firing workshops as a technique worth understanding, and we'll point members toward regional raku events where you can experience it firsthand. Watching pots come out of a kiln glowing orange and seeing the surfaces transform in real time is unforgettable.

Raku Firing Classes at Boulder Pottery Studio

At Boulder Pottery Studio, we will teach raku firing as part of our pottery curriculum. Whether you're exploring this technique for the first time or deepening an existing practice, our instructors will guide you through the fundamentals and help you develop your skills.

All materials will be included in our class fees: clay, glazes, kiln firing, and tools. Our studio is planned around modern computer-controlled electric kilns, so firings are consistent and dependable.
