Opening Spring 2027

Nerikomi in Boulder

Learn nerikomi colored clay technique in Boulder. Create patterns by layering different colored clays.

Home / Nerikomi

Nerikomi (also called neriage) is a Japanese technique where different colored clays are layered, folded, and sliced to reveal intricate internal patterns. Think of it like millefiori glass, but in clay. The patterns run all the way through the wall of the pot.

At Boulder Pottery Studio, we teach nerikomi workshops where you'll learn to stain clay with oxides and stains, stack and fold layers, and slice to reveal stunning cross-section patterns.

Nerikomi Classes at Boulder Pottery Studio

At Boulder Pottery Studio, we will teach nerikomi as part of our pottery curriculum. Whether you're exploring this technique for the first time or deepening an existing practice, our instructors will guide you through the fundamentals and help you develop your skills.

All materials will be included in our class fees: clay, glazes, kiln firing, and tools. Our studio is planned around modern computer-controlled electric kilns, so firings are consistent and dependable.
