Agateware is created by partially blending two or more colored clays together, creating marbled, swirled patterns reminiscent of agate stone. Unlike nerikomi, where patterns are precise and planned, agateware embraces the organic flow of mixed clays.
At Boulder Pottery Studio, we teach agateware techniques in our advanced handbuilding and wheel throwing workshops. You'll learn to stain clays, combine them without over-mixing, and throw or handbuild forms that showcase the beautiful internal patterns.

All materials will be included in our class fees: clay, glazes, kiln firing, and tools. Our studio is planned around both gas and electric kilns, so you can choose the firing that suits the work.
